Irrespective of our political affiliations,I think certain facts in the governance of Ogun State are undeniable. I have read with utmost disappointment the claims by some people that the last administration in Ogun State did nothing through out its eight years rule, this of course to me is the height of political immaturity and insincerity to say the least. One need to ask if those category of public commentators ever lived in Ogun state or never had cause to come into direct contact with some of the landmarks projects of the administration which are quite visible for visionary sights.
A government should not only be judged by ordinary improvement of existing infrastructures but by combination of the amount of innovative ideas and social welfare services deliveryin key goals of employment generation, poverty alleviation and improvement of the life of citizenry. I stand to be corrected that the last administration contributed in mo small measures to sustainable development of Ogun state through generation of profitable investments, good return on investment and execution of public-private partnership projects in the state. the amount of socio economic transformation that took place can only be understood by those who posses the special abilities to see and understand good visions.
People should learn to reward excellence and good performance. Obviously, no amount of critical ill-feeling can destroy the physical legacies of excellent sports development, Opic plaza, the three stadia , TASUED and other Institutions, modern markets, free trade zones, LADERIN workers estates and other numerous housing estates across the state, Oba complex , the State secretariat complex to mention just a few . Rather than deceiving the incumbent government that it had out classed the last regime within one year of it operations , we need to let the Administration come to the reality that the shoe on ground is too big for small and medium legs and that it requires reviewing and building on existing structures and plans to surpass the past administrations.

The Compulsive Critic & The Leader by Lai Labode , Jan 24 2013
"Every leader needs a compulsive critic , if you don't have one , you have not started to lead . " Lai Labode , 29th May 2010
While visionary leadership is not a promise of perfection , it is usually judged by compulsive critics with a malicious eye for it's inevitable imperfections . The confidence of the leader is a source of worry to the compulsive critic , the leader's strengths and resolve are either viewed as arrogance or overbearing , his weakness or weaknesses are forever in the open skies of the compulsive critic , his progress no matter how evident is fiercely denied by the compulsive critic who isn't wired to contend with its reality.
Because the world is a great lover of great tales of success and failure , its ears are ever ready for all colors of lies , truth , rumors ,misfortune or fiction . There is a large room in the palace of the compulsive critic for believability of anything that undermines the leader and his conviction .
A leader is blamed for the childlessness or impotence of the compulsive critic and must take the fall when the critic fails in his duty to self ,family or society. Leadership is the dumping ground of all that is wrong with the compulsive critic and his household .
When the leader speaks with a measure of passion , the compulsive critic sees a man pretending to love his country , when the leader speaks dispassionately , the critic sees an insensitive leader whose only interest is power and its attendant aura. The compulsive critic is a man with a gift of an eye for the worst .
The compulsive critic knows when the leader farts or sneezes , he is unconsciously obsessed with the leader's mien and spreads the leader's message , skill , convictions and prowess without knowing it . He is the town-crier of the leader who never gets paid .
The compulsive critic lives in an illusion of understanding of what is wrong with the leader's style , belief and disposition , he lives in a small world of self deceit and shows himself to any discerning observer as either too critical , little ,bitter , jealous or envious .
The compulsive critic fails woefully to see that the leaders imperfections are evidence of his humanness , he doesn't to see that the leader's humanness is what illuminates his passion and beliefs , his passion feeds his drive , while his belief maintains his resilience.
The leader's resilience is an evidence of the depth of his conviction , it is his conviction that leads him from glory to glory and keeps the compulsive critic in perpetual discomfort .
Time and time again in human history , great leaders are assailed by compulsive critics , the critic is an integral part of the world of the leader , the leader is less than the full measure of his prowess in the verdict of the history when the compulsive critic is absent .
No one assails a piece of art , music or invention that commands little or no value , the intensity of a critic's vituperations many a time is a further proof of the leaders power to influence .
The compulsive critic lives with a measure of insanity because he processes every good , bad and ugly information with the same negative emotion leaving him susceptible to flawed perception or submission.
The compulsive critic copes with deep progressive reasoning disability , once he gets into his mood , he knows no caution , reason or shame. While he may sometimes appear personable , he is a little man forever on the loose .
If a compulsive critic has a gift or a flash of some sort of brilliance , the depth of the gift or brilliance is recklessly exaggerated in his mind and he simply looses the wisdom of tolerance for the points of view of others . The compulsive critic is unconsciously an enemy of self .
The compulsive critic is also compulsively insecure hence his over sensitive reactions when attention is called to the delusions of his characteristic single view of a world viewable from a zillion doors and windows .
Many a time , the compulsive critic is the easiest pawn in the slippery arena of political power . It takes little to start him and guide him to a pre-determined end because he fails to see the superiority of self control over rash bravery.
Every leader needs a compulsive critic , if you don't have one , you have not started to lead .

21st Century and ICT. Meeting The Challenges and Breaking The Barriers.
Today's school levers and graduates faces a lot of dilemma as a result of the challenges posed by the required skills for the 21st century survival. These skills, many a times are not included in the state learning standards nor measured on the local education board.
Our expectations as parent/guardian is that our offspring get equipped and ready to thrive in the emerging Digital Age which of course could be difficult without the necessary education and practical experiences that gets the job done. In fact, this has become more pertinent as Information and Communication technologies are raising the bar on the competencies needed to succeed in the 21st century. It is in the light of this, that the Chairman House of Reps Committee on Science and Technology, Hon. Akinlade Abiodun Isiaq thought it good to partner with the National Information and Technology Agency (NITDA) for the purpose of training/building young IT interested folks and graduating an average of five hundred and sixty (560) youths of Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency per-annum, empowering and giving them more self-esteem.

The beauty of Hon. Akinlade's Free I.C.T programme however is that its curriculum were actually designed to suit and bring out learner's area of strength, train them with the necessary tools and resources even as they are evaluated through examinations and practical project presentations at the end
Student learning in the Hardware department are expected to become self employed and start living a life of their own immediately after graduation as the Honorable will be empowering them with basic start up instruments (i.e A computer set and engineering tools each) while successful students in the Software departments also goes home with a computer set each.
I bet this initiative of the Honorable has the potential of addressing our socio-economic challenges with specific concern about the ill effect of unemployment and cyber crime, among other vices that limit youth potential in our country.

Governor SIA is an Outlaw.
THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ibadan zone yesterday faulted Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state over his unilateral removal of the Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education, Professor Segun Awonusi and the subsequent appointment of Professor Oluyemisi Obilade as the new VC.
ASUU, at an emergency meeting held at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), maintained that the power to appoint and remove principal officers as contained in the university law is vested in the governing council.
While describing Amosun’s action as illegal and unconstitutional, ASUU resolved that the non-constitution of Governing Council for the university despite persistent demand by the union has made effective governance of the institution impossible.
In a communique signed by union leaders from the zone, namely, Dr Segun Ajiboye (UI), Karo Ogbinaka (UNILAG), Tayo Omoniyi (OOU), Jamiu Oluwatoki (LASU), Anthony Oyenuga (TASUED), and Biodun Badmus (FUNAAB), the university teachers alleged that the failure of Amosun to constitute a governing council for the institution was a premeditated action to pave way for the Governor to rob the university of its autonomy.
The union then urged Amosun to toe the path of the rule of law by constituting the governing council and re- appraising the removal of Prof Awonusi with a view to dispelling the cloud of instability on the university.

Lai Labode: Participate, stop complaining!
by Lai Labode
“The future of every nation is written many years earlier in the hearts of its youth.” - Lai Labode
I became the Chairman of the PDP Youth Circuit after a difficult but successful merger with the League of Young Democrats led by Chief Raymond Dokpesi jnr, a true patriot who later became my deputy. After one of our late night meetings we sat down to ponder on the challenges we faced in our bid to open a new chapter in Nigeria’s history of youth participation in politics and leadership under the umbrella of Africa’s largest political party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
We pondered into the night how to inspire 10 million Nigerian youths and Persons Living With Disabilities to join the PDP and help to start a new era of transparency, responsiveness, institutionalization of clear party ideology and full blown democratic practices. We peeped into the future together and saw a new PDP that became the new rallying point for all Nigerians who want change, good governance and enduring progress.
We were saddened that our party like other political parties has not been able to effectively connect with the aspirations of the ordinary NIGERIAN after all these years.
We worried greatly about the poor management of Nigeria’s political systems and the ease with which youths are used to destroy their own future by politicians. We agreed that all Nigeria’s political parties needed urgent reforms and the youth urgently needed a new orientation to harness its potential to facilitate the change.
We realized how much Nigerian youths are largely individual champions who know very little about so much in an age where information comes at a phenomenally fast-pace and makes proper processing painfully difficult.
We easily agreed how shameful the Nigerian opposition parties have faired in their narrow comfort zones of either a one man, ethnic or religious party politics. We discussed ACN and its seeming good records in Lagos and wondered if the largest financial short change of the people in Africa’s history isn’t happening under the watch of Nigeria’s most ‘performing’ ACN governor.
We touched on the power of social media, its challenges, illusions, limitations and most importantly its unprecedented, unparalleled potential as a platform that can be used to inspire millions of people to take actions associated with the need for change.
We concluded that Nigeran youths from all works of life needed to start a ‘Political Participation Revolution’ if they really want to quicken the pace of change and set Nigeria on a ‘never to return path of glory’.
We identified the following six items as most crucial for real change to occur;
1. Strategic and Organized ‘Invasion’ of all Nigeria’s Political Parties by youths.
2. Support the Establishment of the Coalition of Youths in Nigeria’s Political Parties to set and manage the standard of youth participation in politics and leadership.
3. Establish clear ideological bases within the political parties and push for institutionalization of ideas that fall along agreed ideological lines.
4. Establish a funding structure that is sustained by the ordinary people who share established ideology.
5. Invest in massive, comprehensive voter education on participation, responsibility and patriotism.
6. Establish debate platforms across the country for cross fertilization of ideas.
Are the people really ready for change you may ask? The truth is that the people have always been ready. History has thought us that the power of the people can be unleashed for positive action by a genuine firm and visionary leadership that runs strictly on the fuel of majority consent of the followers and good example.
We owe a duty to Nigerians yet unborn to build a nation founded on truth, justice, fairness and most importantly on ethics or values we are not ashamed to publicly propagate.
The time has come for the youths to take a stand, organize and make sacrifices. Enough of the fault finding and bickering about how bad the leaders are.
I have no doubt in my heart that Nigerian youths will eventually rise to the occasion. Social media is helping to build political consciousness and expression as never seen before in our nation’s history. It has become the gasoline of change delicately waiting for a fire to start.
We all cannot be politicians but we all have different roles to play if we must guarantee a prosperous future for ourselves and generations of Nigerians to come. We all need to do something; join a political party or some association, register to vote or write a blog, join peaceful protests and civil actions.
We have begun that process in the PDP. We encourage all youths who have soft spot for any other political party to do same. We see hope. Do you?

What is the motive behind EFFC's modus operandi ?
THREE GOVS UNDER PROBE: Strong indications emerged last night that the high-wire politics and horse trading for 2015 are under way: three serving governors -- Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) and Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta) -- are being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
LEADERSHIP further gathered that the operatives of the anti-graft agencies had launched investigations into the activities of some state governors and compiled certain alleged infractions against them.
Though the governors are protected from prosecution while in office by virtue of the immunity clause, the Supreme Court had held that the governors could be protected after the completion of their tenures.
Some stakeholders in the ruling PDP are rooting for Lamido/Amaechi ticket on the grounds that there is the need to put in place a young and dynamic team that will effect positive change on governance.
Though President Goodluck Jonathan is yet to make a formal pronouncement on whether or not he is going to contest the 2015 presidential poll, some analysts believe that the president has the constitutional right to seek a second term.
The situation was further compounded when Jonathan’s posters flooded Abuja on January 1, 2013, informing those eyeing Aso Rock to forget the dream on the grounds that there was no vacancy in 2015.
The development prompted the spokesman of Jonathan, Dr Reuben Abati, to deny the involvement of the presidency in the matter, adding that the sponsors of the posters were on their own.
But a source close to the presidency confided in LEADERSHIP yesterday that the political permutations might not be too simplistic for those promoting the ascendancy of certain state governors to take over from Jonathan.
The source added that the three governors might get impeachment threats or receive the treatment meted out to a former Bayelsa State governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
According to him, certain situations will soon take place which will send some messages to the governors that they are being monitored and may be embarrassed.
The source also confirmed that Lamido, Amaechi and Uduaghan are under the watchful eye of the EFCC, saying that the EFCC boss, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, had submitted their files to the president last week.
He said: “Before the middle of this year, you will see serious dramas between Mr. President and some governors. Already, Sule Lamido, Amaechi and Uduaghan are marked. Everything will be done to embarrass them including impeachment threats. May I inform you that Lamorde has already submitted their files to President Jonathan last week.”
When contacted over the matter, the spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, claimed that he was not aware of the development.
The presidency has feigned ignorance of the development as none of its spokesmen is willing to speak on the matter.
Telephone calls and text messages sent to Abati and the senior special assistant on public affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, were not replied as at press time.
Amaechi’s govt is used to EFCC’s attacks
- OfficialMeanwhile, an official of the Rivers State government and immediate past chief press secretary to the governor, Mr. Blessing Wikina, has said the administration of Amaechi is used to the constant attacks by the EFCC.
Wikina, the director of information and communication technology (ICT) in the State Ministry of Information and Communications, told LEADERSHIP on telephone that the rumours of planned prosecution of the governor by the EFCC heightened because the country was approaching an election year.
He said: “We are not aware that the EFCC is investigating Governor Amaechi. But if they do, we will not be surprised because that is how the EFCC always behaves whenever the country is approaching an election year.
“The fact is that we are used to their antics and it will end the way other efforts of theirs ended. We are not afraid of them.”
The governor’s former aide wondered why the anti-graft agency would try to prosecute a government whose administration has received credit ratings from international organisations such as Standard & Poor’s as well as Fitch for the past six years.
Wikina said: “Another point is that, for six consecutive years, Rivers State under Amaechi has been getting ‘A’ ratings from international organisations. If the Amaechi government is corrupt, why would an international organisation give the state government such rating?”
Efforts by LEADERSHIP to get the reactions of the state commissioner for information and communications, Mrs. Ibim Seminatari, as well as that of the chief press secretary to the governor, Mr. David Iyofor, proved abortive as their phone lines were switched off.
Delta is being investigated over airport project
Also reacting to the issue, the Delta State commissioner for information, Barrister Chike Ogeah, said: “Yes, it is true that some persons who claimed to be in the opposition have written a petition to the EFCC regarding the airport project. Yes, I am aware that as the chief executive of the state, he has to answer the case, because it beholds on him to answer; it is normal in a state like ours where the opposition keep an eye on projects, whether properly executed or not, as their weapon. All the same there is no cause for alarm.”
But the Jigawa State director of press, Mr. Umar Kyari, stated that he was not aware of the issue.
